Annual Oratorical Contest

The Optimist Club of Burlington is pleased to host an annual Oratorical Contest. It provides youth with the opportunity to express themselves and gain confidence in their abilities to express themselves and has been a focus for the Optimist Club of Burlington since its inception. Optimist Clubs have hosted Oratorical Contests since 1928. Starting in 2016, Optimist International has partnered with St. Louis University to conduct the Optimist Oratorical World Championships, which gives students the opportunity to receive further scholarships. Competition begins at the local Optimist Club level, and continues through the Zone, District, Regional, and finally International levels, with cash prizes and scholarships awarded at most levels. The winner of the International Competition will accumulate scholarships totalling $22,500.00!

The topic for this year's Oratorical Contest is: Where are my Roots of Optimism. The 2017-18 Contest Rules and Application Form is available here.

Here are photos from last year's Optimist Club of Burlington Oratorical Contest:

In June of 2016, Cameron Tyler representing the Jackson Noon Optimist Club and Optimist's East Missouri District is the first ‚ÄčOptimist Oratorical World Champion! A contestant from our District made it all the way to the Regional contest also in Saint Louis this year. Congratulations to all of the youth who competed. Contests start again at the individual Club Level again in the 2017-18 school year. It is an awesome opportunity for a great
school project. The deadline for submissions is March 23rd.  Please go to our menu and select contact to connect via email with the Club.
